Improv Workshop

Improv Workshop: Make Object Work… Work! POSTPONED- NEW DATE TBA!
“Object Work” is when improvisers have to interact with the objects in an environment in a believable, grounded way. We don’t have the luxury of working with props, we have to pantomime interacting with everything!
For our scenes to be believable, we need to ground in reality. And nothing breaks reality like inept object work. In this workshop, we’ll practice adding relatabilty to our scenework by inhabiting the location we’re in and working with the objects it contains to inform our characters and their relationships.
No improv, theater, or writing experience necessary! All adults are welcome!

Sketch Comedy Writing Class!
Ready to take your comedy ideas from funny thoughts to full sketches? This 8-week sketch comedy writing class is for anyone who wants to explore their creativity, sharpen their sense of humor, and have fun writing. Students will learn how to generate strong premises, build characters, master joke structure, and write scenes that land big laughs. With games, writing drills, brief weekly homework assignments, and collaborative exercises, you will leave with a toolbox of comedic techniques and original sketches. In the final week you will see your work come to life with a live showcase.

This class is a 7 week introduction to the world of long form improv! Absolutely zero experience is required to take this class!
Using collaborative games and exercises you will be introduced to the beginning skills of long form improv and learn your very first long form! Participants will learn how to listen better, improve memory skills, speak confidently and from the heart, and how to have better conversations. This class will show each participant how you can take these games and skills and connect them to every day life. Improvisational theater has been known to foster improved mental health through collaborative games and listening skills and the building of community and camaraderie through laughter.

This Class is for anyone who wants their moment in the Spotlight! Our Cabaret Class will introduce you to the idea of a “Spot Song”….a solo musical improv moment that will be completely made up on the spot!
This class will cover how to create solo Chorus/Verse, Verse/Chorus, Backline and Frontline tag songs. We will cover character development and improvised monologuing skills. Together, we will create an improvised cabaret night using thematic and emotional suggestions to weave together a tapestry of improvised solo moments!
Prerequisite: None Required, but should be a Music Lover!!

Intermediate/Improv Essentials: The Short & The Long of It
This Improv Essentials Class is designed for folks who are curious about the relationship between Short Form and Long Form. No need to choose whether you like short form or long form the best….this class will marry the two!
Rory will choose Short Form Games that focus on important long form skills (character choices, strong initiations, bold choices and pivoting/spontaneous thought, chasing the game) and will then show you how to bring those skills into your long form.
At the end of the 7 weeks, you will get to develop a form which will use short form to inform your long form to present at our Winter Showcase.
Prerequisite: Beginner Performance (experience from another theater is definitely allowed, just email us!)
